Durable and stylish playhouses

Our wooden playhouses with sandboxes are not only fun but also durable. Because they are made of high-quality wood, they fit seamlessly into any garden and last for years. A wooden playhouse with a sandbox also offers versatility: multiple children can play at the same time, and the sandbox can easily be covered when not in use.

Safety and convenience

At Jungle Gym, safety comes first. Every wooden playhouse with a built-in sandbox is designed with included bumper pads, sturdy handgrips, and anti-slip materials. Furthermore, all Jungle Gym climbing frames are designed to comply with the European safety standard EN 71-8, and the production processes are closely monitored to ensure these standards are met. The playhouse with sandbox offers children a safe place to play, while parents can watch with peace of mind. Thanks to the modular design, you can also easily add expansions later, such as a swing or extra accessories. A handy cover to keep the sand clean is available separately.

How much sand is needed for a sandbox?

The size and depth of the sandbox vary per climbing frame. How much sand you need depends on the type of sand and how full you want to fill the sandbox. Ensure that the sand remains a few centimeters below the edge to prevent it from overflowing during play. As a rule of thumb, you can use the following:

  • Sandbox under medium tower (approx. 115 cm x 95 cm): $0.19\text{ m}^3 \approx 300\text{ kg}$ of sand (10-12 bags of 25 kg)
  • Sandbox under large tower (approx. 140 cm x 120 cm): $0.29\text{ m}^3 \approx 450\text{ kg}$ of sand (16-18 bags of 25 kg)

The sandbox of the smaller towers (approx. 75 cm x 55 cm) is less deep. To turn this into a small sandbox, you need significantly less; therefore, assume about 50 kg of sand (2-3 bags of 25 kg) per tower section.

Tip: Use high-quality play sand for the best play experience and keep the sandbox covered when not in use.

Assembling your climbing frame is simple and straightforward with Jungle Gym's instructions, but some preparation and tools are needed. Every Jungle Gym climbing frame comes with an assembly manual, the required screws and drill bits, plus screw-in ground anchors. From your own toolbox you will need a few basic tools like an electric drill, tape measure and screwdriver. Before you get started with the assembly of your wooden climbing frame, make sure that you have all the neccessary tools, an appropriate installation surface, a helping hand, and enough time to enjoy the assembly without rushing. Jungle Gym wooden climbing frames are made of high-quality timber, which is an eco-friendly, strong and durable material that blends seamlessly into your garden. Plastic climbing frames, on the other hand, are made of plastic that doesn't age well, isn't very eco-friendly and often stands out in natural surroundings. If you want a climbing frame that lasts for years and fits into your outdoor space, we recommend choosing a wooden climbing frame for you and your family.

It is important to assemble your wooden climbing frame on the correct type of ground surface. Jungle Gym recommends installing your climbing frame on an unpaved, steady surface such as grass or compact sand. Avoid placing it on hard surfaces like asphalt, or any similar materials, including carpet or artificial grass laid over hard surfaces.
However, if the only option for you is a hard surface, not to worry! This can be transformed into a suitable ground surface by installing impact attenuation surfacing such as rubber tiling. Jungle Gym does not offer this in our collection but they can be found in most hardware stores. For further information, have a read through theguideon recommended ground surfaces for climbing frames.

To keep your wooden climbing frame safe and looking its best, regular maintentance is key. Make sure to remove leaves, branches and dirt from the swings, play platform or other corners where debris can accumulate. If needed, you can also gently wash the playset with a pressure washer on a low setting to remove built-up grime. It's also important to reapply water-based stains or wood preservatives every few years, to protect the wood in your climbing frame since treatments and stains naturally fade over time. This will help keep the timber clean, but also protect your climbing frame from the elements like rain, snow and sun. With the right maintentance, your climbing frame will stay in great condition throughout the seasons, for years to come!
